Hi all, I hope someone can help here as I am tearing my hair out trying to work out what I am doing wrong.

I have a home network of one main desktop computer and two laptops.

The internet is through NTL cable, the modem is connected to the wireless router (Netgear WPN824).

Laptop one has the Netgear WPN111 USB adapter that came with the router package. All setup and working fine.

Laptop 2 has a built in 802.11g wireless reciever. Also all setup and working fine.

I have everything setup and working so that both laptops can get full use of the internet.

All connections are secured by a WPA2-PSK [AES] passkey.

All the computers have been setup with the same workgroup name, but seperate computer names.

I have, on the main desktop, got printer and file sharing enabled, and all the directories and folders I wish the laptops to have acess too, have been setup to enable sharing.

However the problem I have is that neither laptop can get access to these folders at all, when I go into My network Places on either laptop, I can see the following

Entire Network
Microsoft Windows Network
Homenet ( My workgroup name)

but that is as far as it will go, I cannot see the main desktop, or the other laptop, or the shared main printer, so there is no way of gaining access to the folders I have already marked as sharing enabled.

So what am I doing wrong please?????

i had this problem with a pc sharing some folders between 2k and 98, it was zonealarm blocking the connection. What firewall are you using?

Cheers for the quick reply Quackers, sorry I did not get back quicker.

I am using Norton on the main desktop at the moment, and the IP address for the router is in the trusted list in the firewall settings, with a subnet mask including the range of addresses to cover both laptops.

Am beginning to think there is a problem with the router itself, because it is supposed to be a "Rangemax" device covering upto 120M but I get signal dropout just two rooms away, through two stud walls, and that is using the usb adapter that came with the package, and downstairs it will not connect at all!!!

Think I will go back to supplier and see what they say about swapping it for something different.

What happens if you go to start > run
Then type \\(pcname) (of the one you are trying to connect to) and press enter?
