you need to add a case, monitor, speakers and headset.

i didnt add a case as i thought you should pick that and i didn't add any audio and visual equipment since i am not up to date in those areas so any suggestions i make regarding audio and visual products may be wrong therefore i didnt make any.

Just for comparison sakes, what is your current system? Also when you're asking for speakers are you looking at 2.1 or 5.1 and I take it you're looking at 24" monitors? The above spec looks good but I would perhaps stick a 3.00Ghz Wolfdale in there to future proof it (he doesn't mention any video editing or such programs so no need for a quad).

For the above spec you really really want an E8400 (it will make homework so much faster).

As for the monitor, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-071-SA&groupid=703&catid=17&subcat=510 is one top of the range type of thing (samsung make quality monitors, i have the older 20' one and im do physicaly miss it whilst im at uni.......) Though there are cheaper versions of it.....

If your not interested in surround sound speakers/want pretty good sound, my cool way of doing it was hooking up my pc to my old stero system (it stopped playing cds and the cable cost me £5 over £50 for pc speakers). Just a thought if you have one with the red n white inputs (or really big/cool looking speakers about the place)

I am not up on whats good with speakers so had a look for something within budget, i am sure you can get better advice from another member ;)

The wolfy 7200 will get you to at least 3.8 :D, its a little cracker, i didnt suggest a quad core as you dont encode.

A few things are TWO so saving a few quid there amd the sound card isnt cheap but had great reviews and drivers work great on vista

If you can spend a bit more on head phones i would recommend the Sennheiser HD 555 Stereo Headphones, also had good reviews

This is onlt my suggestion and i am sure someone will come alone with a better build for you

Good luck with your new PC :D

I have a old Dell Dimension something or other, single core, damn old ATI card etc. so i want to go as all out as possible. 2.1 speakers would be better, i have an ipod docking thing next to my desk so i dont want 5.1, sorry for not mentioning it earlier. And im not sure about the monitor is it worth getting a 24", is it really that much better experience than a 22" ?? Also a more future proof system would be better because i probably won't upgrade for a while.

Thank you for all the specs so far.... I also put something together, but without speakers etc. so maybe if you could shave off a £100 and put speakers etc that would be cool Thanks guys, you are awesome

personally if you can i would wait a month if your going to go for a £300+ graphics card as the new stuff is coming out sooner rather than later which means you could get either a much better card, or at least save £50 to put towards an even meaner spec.

ive left out the case so if you go the the 900 its almost dead on a grand including delivery, though you could replace the t20's with a decent (£100) 2.1 setup and get a hx520 for £20 more and a wolfdale if raw power is more you thing.

I've got no idea of the quality of the speakers or headset, consider them placeholders if you want. Personally I think the case is ugly and you could get it down to about £1,000 if you went for the Akasa Zen in its place but it is up to you.

get a 226 and soem t20's and the above spec is top notch.

also look around for cases which you prefer and look at reviews.

What cards are you talking about???

Also i know what the T20's are but the 226??? what is this??

Both ATI and Nvidia are set to release their new high end cards in June. Personally I wouldn't go spending anything more than the ~£100 it costs for a 8800GT at this time, as the gains above that aren't really cost efficient considering they'll all be outclassed very soon. Nothing is hitting at the ~£100 from what I've seen, so cards from the 8800GT and down are still viable buys in my eyes.
