Hi.

Ok, quick and to the point...

Colt have hit us with a 10amp power cap on racks we use now and need to migrate too, the max they can cool per rack is 10amps worth of kit.

Does anyone else user Colt for co-lo hosting and have experience of this capping?

Also anyone know about Colts expansion plans for Powergate?

Finally - potentially looking for alternate co-lo's in and around central London as colt are bending us over on cost as well have to migrate to 10 racks over 5 to spread our kit out to stay at the 10amp limit.

Cheers!

Seems to me that colt have under specced there current flagship UK datacenter e.g. not made allowances for power and density increases to the hardware people want to host with them. Makes a mockery of efficient use of hardware to me.

They're an ISP - they aren't that interested in Colo for servers, there's sod all money in it. Odds 75% of the space is in use for their own gear.

Hardly matters anyway, if they spec'd it to supply and cool 32A worth of kit it'd have a price tag that nobody would pay - it's like everything else, people want the earth for next to no money...

Not quite but i see where your coming from...

Powergate is touted as theyre flagship for Legal/Financial companies that dont have private data center real estate to use.
The IDC we use is 95% at a guess customer colo kit...
We pay 12k a month just now which may go to almost 30k a month due to them moving the goal posts a bit...!!! ive worked out we will get 3 DL585's in ONE rack with a couple of switches at the top, its not a sensible use of space!
