CVT stands for Constantly Variable Transmission...It's not relevant to how many driven wheels it has ;)

Think of old Volvos and Dafs - two opposing cones linked by metal bands which slip to provide the optimum ratio for the engine speed and load...

I can swear that the Honda CVT is linked to the 4 wheel drive - iirc the car uses two but applies the other two when losing traction....**goes to check**

you mean if they come with a permenent 4wd system ;)
its like nissan skyline, they arent 4wd they are rwd untill the sensors detect a loss of grip from the rear wheels.

Didn't Honda use a haldex system in some of it's motors? It was setup for FWD until they started losing traction then it shifts some power to the back?

prelude wasnt it? 4 wheel steer aswell.

Prelude had 4WS but not a 4wd system.

I guess 4ws could be made by haldex as they are just a company, but there was never a 4wd type system on the prelude.

Most popular haldex is kind of the reverse of the Skyline GTRs, i.e. they are front wheel drive bias until they lose grip then some power is shifted to the back. I was reading an interesting discussion somewhere about the 4wd system in the S3, how that off the line it's beneifical but people seemed to think that in situations where 4wd would be helpful (hooning round bends or something) the system doesn't act well and juts keeps it fwd.

Saying that for around 600 you can chip the haldex system (sounds odd I know) to change the bias
