Ok so I hvae two small problems with the car, can you tell me what is wrong and the cure. :)

1) Squeaky gearstick when changing gears.

2) Noises coming from my front offside wheel when turning the wheel at slow speeds, like a clunk clunk clunk noise.

Cheers.

Probably just the ball joint kind of thing at the bottom of the lever has dried up. I'd try and grease it up a bit. Depending on the squeek though it could just be the gaiter rubbing on something or it may be coming from the linkages. Not really too sure on this one, I'd get under the car and try jiggling stuff around to work out exactley what was squeeking.

Dead CV joint. Might be able to replace it or you may need a whole driveshaft depending on the car

That would be my diagnosis anyway.

Saxo VTR, maybe it is the french cv joint of chesse. :p

Do I replace both sides or just the naffed one?

one piece driveshafts on them then i believe. you replace just the naffed side.

Damm that is not going to be cheap. :(

nope, hence why i never buy citroen or peugeot. ;)

CV joint for my escort? about £15. ;)

GKN n/a 654545335 DRIVESHAFT LH SAXO -ABS 06/96- .
LH Driveshaft £78.70

Hmm is that the right part, I dont have abs does it make a difference?

Also should it go after 40k, seems a little early?

40k sounds likely for a french driveshaft. The ABS ones will have a sensor ring attatched to them I believe so the ABS system can tell if the wheels are turning. You could always get one from a scrappy but it's quite likely that would be false economy, you'd have to check them over very carefully on the car it came off.

N43809 DRIVESHAFT-LH GKN SAXO 1.5D/VTR NO ABS 68.87
I think that's the one you want, price and part number from GSF.

Yeah that looks like the part but it is a refurbed unit, dont know if I fancy a recon unit.

refurbed still comes with a warranty on it. doubt you will find one that isnt a refurb even from a dealer.

what year is your saxo anyway?

Get the price for a brand new driveshaft from a Citroen dealer, it will make you pleased to have the option of a recon!

Note that there will be a surcharge on a recon item, you get it refunded when you return the old one.

40k does seem a bit low for a CV though, even for a small French car. Of course, driving style will have a large impact on the life of this item.... :D

Having followed him and have him follow me I can safely say it should have lasted to 80k then :D ;)

CV joint went on the corsa, it was its reason for failing the MOT, afaik it was about £50 to get it sorted. Dont quote me on this though, this was done at a Citroen garage.

Ok update

It is not the cv joint it does not do it all the time through the full turn lock to lock.

It seems to creak like a ship on the last turn before lock in each direction, and it is getting louder and more frequent, any new ideas.

Seems to be coming from the bottom of the suspension too.

My first thoughts were that it could have been the spring creaking, but it definitely doesn't sound like it.

in my experience a knackered CV joint doesnt always knock, normally does it when loaded up on one side already normally the opposite to the knackered one.
