What about Pinnacle?

Sorry haven't used it, have used sony sony veags and found it very good. I have a sony camcorder and its simple to transfer the movies, edit them, then convert to dvd and burn them, takes a bit of time though.

Are you happy with your Sony Camcorder? Which model do you have?

Not sure if i should go for the JVC GR-D370 or the Sony DCR-HC35

Help!

What about Pinnacle?

I've been an Avid (boom-boom!) Pinnacle user for years, but I've not really kept up to date with things and the last I heard was that their lead in consumer-level software had been pretty much destroyed by the latest crop of software.

Take a look at Digital Video magazine, and any others you can get your hands on. Pinnacle have always had a reputation for releasing consumer software ridden with the sorts of bugs an enterprise with a large IT team might find par for the course, but consumers get p'ed off with. And, to be honest, when their stuff works it has always been great, but when it doesn't work it feels like the best part of 100 quid flushed down the toilet.

I use Vegas 6c [used to use v4 ,got v5 but never installed it] Yes, very good software but not for the novice .I just use it to do some fancy edit stuff . My main capture/edit/write software is Pinnacle 9 .This is excellent for doing some quick work .Never had any dropped frames yet. Another very good one is Serif Movie Plus , I bought 4 and liked it , then they released v 5 and I use that now . That is also good to use with some nice effects , picture in picture etc.Back to Sony ,there are some nice downloads including all the user guides for vegas4/5/6 and other software from a sonymedia website if your interested .The vegas6 guide is 13mb and has over 400 pages .....that should kep you going for a while.

Is the Sony Vegas 6 good for just Capturing the video from the Camcorder and then burning it to DVD?

TBH , I've never used it for capturing nor have I used it to write to disk .I capture all my footage from camcorder to DV.avi using Pinnacle 9 . It's really good.I only use Vegas for a special edit , then save to file then import into Sonic etc. Pinnacle writes directly to DVD effortlessly . If I need something with menus I use Sonic DVDit .This lets you import your mpegs onto a menu and writes to DVD perfectly.HTH

Windows Movie Maker which is part of Windows XP

or

Adobe Premiere 2.0 or the cut down version

Premiere is superb, but it's pricey unless you can make do with their trial. You will need the DVD creation software to match.
