Hello,

Im looking for a camcorder for use on my course at uni, and it needs to have a decent amount of manual controls.

Im not really too concerned whether it is HD or not, and also the medium to which it records isnt of that much concern to me either unless there is a particular reason to go for a particular format.

I have a budget of around £1000, no brand preference.

Would really like some recommendations!

Thanks!

I havent bought one recently - but you can never go wrong with Sony in my opinion. I have a TRV25e - which is a bit old but the quality is amazing.

You really wanna make sure it records on mini DV tape as its the easiest/cheapest/best quality around for consumers at the moment.

For HD you looking twice you budget for the bottom end model really.

Just had a quick look around and it seems hard to find sony's with manual focus now :( - saying that mine does have an excellent auto focus, but its not good to rely on.

I will have a better look tomorrow when I am more awake.

One thing I would suggest is find a big currys or or comet or something and see if they have a display of them - have a play and see which you like then look online for reviews. Don't take what they say as gospel in the shop though! make sure it has the features they says it has!

This might be a little out of your price range, but we bought a load of Sony HDR-A1E for video journalism at work. Fantastic cameras, and especially for audio as you get proper twin XLR inputs and a shotgun mic.

It may be a bit overkill but has all the features you could ever want and many media companies use this camera or similar and Avid Xpress Pro so you'll be at an advantage by knowing both.

You can get the SONY HDR-HC1 MiniDV Camcorder for about a grand, that's what I'd go for if I was shooting HD, it's probably the best minidv camera you can buy and I want one!

The canon HV10 sounds quite good though, bit cheaper than the Sony and can shoot full HD 1920x1080i http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-HV10-Camcorder-Review.htm

Can you suggest where to get this from for that price? Most places seem to be out of stock.
