I'm seeking advice on a good starter camera for my daughter. She currently has a point and click Sony cyber shot and is showing a keen interest in photography. She is 14 years old and it is for a Christmas present. I'm after something that won't break the bank (£200 - £250) But will give her a good starting point.

Thanks.

New and in order of preference. (all ~£250)

Olympus PEN EPL1 (in white or red) with the kit lens. (best choice imo)

Panasonic GF2 with kit lens (if she likes touchscreens)

Canon PowerShot S95. (great portability)

Samsung NX100. (Leftfield choice :p)

Push the budget a little and get her a DSLR, Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS 1100D.

New or 2nd hand?

Sorry should have stated. Preferably new.

Thanks for the choices. I like the look of the Olympus, how easy are they to use? She's certainly switched on so I guess a bit of trial and error?

I was to slow with the multi quote!

Would either of those Two be a little bit advanced for her?

They can be just used like a point and shoot but they will give her headroom to advance her skills with.
