I'm looking for a camera for the bike that has good performance in the night as well as the day.

There are cameras around 50 quid that seem to have good rep but the cameras like the GoPro for hundreds.

I'm wondering if there is a good balance between price and performance or if the GoPros are the only real option here ?

i would have thought, its to capture any accidents with other road users in case he got injured

Could be for mountain biking, adventure stuff. Where stability is important, and I'd recommend a gro Pro.

But if its just for the above, anything will do if your happy with crappyish video. Sure it'll be good enough to prove it wasn't your fault.

It's for safety to capture anything like accident, but I want to just record various parts of rides in good quality as well.

I ride on the road, sometimes partly off-road through Chorlton water park which is like gravel paths sometimes with big puddles.
