Hi, I'm looking to buy a 7D does the image number relate to actual shots taken for example the one I'm looking at states 8500 so it that 8500 shots since new or can the image number be re-set?

no the image number does not tally to the shutter actuations and can be reset. itll also go back around to 0000 after 9999.

there are tools to check the shutter count but some canon models have to go back to canon service center to get it from the camera.

Why they can't just make it easy to find this information out i just don't know!

Because most consumers don't think about it.

And to be honest it's a Mostly worthless figure anyway as shutters can fail after one actuation or many many thousands.

Well I'm sure if your buying second hand and you are able to check and camera in question has taken 120'000 Im sure you wont want to pay top money for it.
