Right I want to get back into some wildlife photography having had a break raising a family. I used to have a 35mm SLR and a 300mm telephoto zoom lens.
I mainly photograph birds (feathered) and want to get a digital camera. Funds are a bit tight so I'd consider 2nd hand as I only want to spend a max of £350ish.

I've tried an old 3.2mp Dimage Z1 with a 10x zoom lens but it wasn't really up to the job as not much scope to enlarge image post shooting and I also felt a bit more telephoto would be helpfull. I see Panasonic do some nice 12x SLR's
but what do you guys suggest??

For the money, I would agree with the Panasonics you mention, the FZ20 and FZ30 are pretty good cameras.

There are other similar cameras out from the likes of Fuji (S5600), Canon (S2 IS), SOny (H1) etc

However, unless you go the DSLR result I a little afraid that you may be disappointed with the results of these SLR-style cameras.
