it's been a while since i've been to these venues, but as i'm going too see
The Cure at the Albert hall and Depeche Mode at Wembley Arena and
Primal Scream at The Astoria, i'd like to know if it's ok to bring a non-pro digi camera ?

Really not sure what the position is on this ... the wife and I were at the Depeche Mode gig at Wembley yesterday (Sunday) and you could actually buy disposable cameras in the foyer, which I'd never seen happen before.

Not only that, but there was a large number of people in the audience that had pocket-sized digital cameras with them - maybe now most people have a camera on their mobile and everbody's more worried about terrorism they don't bother anymore enforcing the 'no cameras' rule anymore ...

Cameras at gigs - possibly the most irritating thing ever. Especially the idiots who don't turn their flashes off.

They should hire a professional photographer for each gig and post shots on a site like photobox.com so people can buy prints. And politely ask people to leave their cameras in their bags.

and all the idiots who hold their damn camera phones up at gigs!!!

i make a habit of jumping around infront of said people, or putting my hands infront of their cameras... or sometimes if its at a metal gig and they are quite close to a mosh, entering them in a free contest to be a part of it!

why should my view be obscured for half the gig because somebody wants a few photos

Nearly every band does and gives the photos for free on their sites. Most places ask that you don't bring any form of image or audio recording equipment in. I only use a camera if I have managed to get onto the front rail.

cant say for all the above venues
but i think two of them are clear channel run predominantly
in which case the standard policy is:
"no more than 35 mm" this includes normal pocket digi cams, so you should be ok
we only take issue at work if it has a detachable lens normally
however at the artists request the rules may be different
i've never had a problem with anyone with a camera at a gig, i'll happily keep my hands down while they take a pic
dont see why you guys have such huge greivances about it
