so me and the boyfriend are looking to go camping week beginning 9th july.
ive found a really nice place in allonby called spring lea. pretty reasonable pitch prices and lots to do (pool, pub restaurant games room etc). only issue is its a 3 hr drive.

i was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere with a drive less that 3 hrs away with lots to do ( we live in cheadle hulme. manchester if that helps) and cost is pretty important as funds are quite low. the place we were looking at is £11 per night for 2 people

thanks in advance

Prepare to get wet! The Lake District is beautiful no doubt but also the wettest place in the whole of the UK.

You could go for the Yorkshire Moors or the Peak District if you didn't want to drive as far, but to be honest just put your foot down a little more. Me and Mrs LordSplodge went camping in Robin Hoods Bay a few weeks ago and that is a 3 hour drive from Derby, but too make a weekend of it we simply set off early and came back late.

We paid £8/Night for a pitch in a very tiny Hamlet of Flyingthorpe litteraly 10 minutes from Robins Hoods Bay. Recommended if anybody wants to camp near Whitby/Scarborough. Going back later in the year with our bikes!

again, we have no money and want to do something different. camping is pretty much the cheapest option

we've tried looking a little closer but our hearts are kind of set on this place due to what we get for the price etc. ( i say our, i really mean my heart)

Good places to camp in the Lakes:

Castlerigg Farm, near to Keswick
National Trust site in Langdale
The Wasdale Head Inn
Side Farm, Patterdale

The general rule for wild camping is take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints, only pitch at sundown and have the tent down by sun-up. If you follow those rules nobody seems to mind.

I go camping every year at Keswick and we have been going to this same camp site for years.

Its literally 5 minutes out of Keswick and the river Derwent runs along side it.

Prices are very good aswell but it doesnt have top of the range facility's or anything, just good showers ;)

Holy thread necropolis.

Anyone else know any good ones? Or been to this one?

To be fair 3 hours isn't exactly a massive journey. Just stick the radio on and have a good sing along, enjoy the scenery and the roads, I promise you that you will be there before you know it.

Don't know if that was for me or OP, but his post was last year. But you're right. Radio up the M6 and admire the views.

wowee! i never ended up going camping last year! but thanks for reviving the thread as we may go this year instead

we regularly use a campsite in Wem, Shropshire called Lower Lacon, Great camp, swimming pool, 2 bars, free hot showers, regular beer festivals, will be heading there soon, need a break

I love the lake district, I'll be very jealous if you go camping there! One of the problems of being down south is it takes to long to get to beautiful places like that :(

If it is less than 3 hours away then what would be the point in camping?

Because if you are going to stay for a few days then spending 6 hours every day travelling there and back is a bit stupid. Seems blatantly obvious to me!

We camped in the Lakes on a small site in Seathwaite, not far from Keswick - the Lakes are a lovely place to camp but it can get damn windy and wet.
