so I changed my CPU lastnight when I first fitted it I got a bootloop with the error code 71 ( bad ram )
so I reset all the ram and tried 1 stick and if I used the 3rd or 4th slot I had issues.

I removed the cpu and checked the pins on the socket. all were fine.
I refitted it and managed to get the system to boot with all 4 ram sticks..

this morning I got code 78 and bootloop. I cleared the cmos and then got 71 again and bootloop but then it booted up.

Ive since upgraded to the newest BIOS and ive got it running. Ive enabled xmp and its running at the moment but im wondering if theres a problem with the new chip as previously the system was stable.

spec is
Asus maximus VII hero
4790k ( 4770k @ 4.5 24/7 previously )
kingston hyperx 2400
MSI Gtx970
XFX XTR 750 psu
M.2 Samsung system drive.

Ive ran the Intel Processor diagnostic tool and it has passed.
ive also ran memtest and it also passed.
Ive ran cinebench and got a good score ive stress tested it with realbench and its also been fine..
I was on the previous bios so it wasn't majorly outdated.

the cpu has a 2 year warranty so do I run it for a few days and see if it does it again?

Ive got it running at 4.5Ghz with 1.253 Vcore Ive ran realbench max temp was 75 I also ran 10 minutes of Prime95 and max temp was 89c on 1 core it never came back with any errors..

Maybe it has just required a bios update...

Just because it was supported does not mean it was without errors. Leave it stress testing running something like linpack for a few hours and see how you get on.

Ive ran Prime 95 and tried Aida64 plus ran realbench and all seems good.
Ive even managed to overclock it to 4.6Ghz with 1.25Vcore stable then stress test it and its passed so thinking im pretty safe..

I think if all is still good in a few weeks I might delid it for better temps

Sounds good then :)
yea Im happy with it.
My old 4770k has found its way into an Asus Gryphon Armor edition Z97 board for my oldest lad
His old FX8350 and Crosshair board has moved on so hes also happy with the upgrade. Ive not overclocked the 4770k in his system though.

I bet its night and day difference for him
yea hes over the moon with it.
I still need to get him some better RAM for it its only running 8gb 1600Mhz
Hes inline for my 970 once I upgrade. still thinking on trying to get a 2nd hand 980ti

Picked the case up still sealed locally for £30 thinking on looking for a nice mini ATX case for him now though.

yea Hes 10 as well so hes doing alright..
He got a playseat and a G27 for his Christmas so he plays a lot of rally and racing games.

My 5 year old is running an i5 4590 8gb of DDR3 2400 with a 580!!!
this was built out of stuff I had lying around after I upgraded my brothers machine and swapped my board to the maximus vii hero

Hes disabled and hes not as mobile as other kids his age and I either built one for him or he used to steal mine...
He does spend a lot of time on it and it has helped him with his speech which is good.
He will even have conversations with his brother with steam messenger and makes less spelling mistakes than his brother

He's not got it in his room though its in the living room so it doubles up as a media PC linked to the main TV
