I am getting blue screens now and again even when the PC is idle and a lot of screen flicker and the stem will hot for a good 30 seconds or more and then go back to normal,

I thought it might be the graphics card but AMD's site suggests all my symptoms are PSU related. The PSU is about 6 years old so its probably lost some power.

Am I on the right track or not?

the PSU is not rated 80 plus or anything are these symptoms normal for a bad PSU

Everything in new in the PC except the PSU

What make/model is it? Also what are the specs? If you can fill that out a little it would help. A bad PSU can lower performance easily yes.

A bad PSU would affect stability rather than performance generally. Although what you're describing sounds like stability rather than performance

Ive had a dying top of the range Coolermaster Realpower 1000w PSU cause me serious instability, BSOD's, spikes and drops in power will cause your machine to crash, and in some cases, if the spike is too big, kill your machine completely.
