Can a Camera Van only catch you speeding?

Hi all, opinions please....

I overtook a car on a NSL stretch of road. The car was only doing 30mph and I reached 45mph tops as I was overtaking. There were no oncoming cars.

As I was overtaking I crossed a chevroned area bound by a dashed white line.
As I was pulling back in I passed a camera van on my side of the road. I would probably still have been on the chevrons as I entered the camera's line of sight.

I've heard that the manoevre I carried out could be classed as driving without due care, although I also read that you can cross a dashed chevrons if it's safe to do so.

Question is will my manoevre be recorded by the camera van or is it only set up to monitor speed?

As I said, I was way under the limit, doing 45 in a 60.

And yes I know I should have seen the big van, but I didn't :p
 
i honestly dont know

i've not heard of it, but then they carry video recording equipment and just press a button that prints out whats on screen with your speed and reg plate on it

therefore i cant see any reason why they couldnt use this video footage of you on the chevrons to prosecute you.

Bit of reasearch may be required i think. maybe ask on pepipoo if anybody has heard of it ?
 
good point, hadnt spotted that

dashed white lines are ok if its safe to do so

its the solid white line'd chevron areas you want to stay away from.

Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.

if the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so
if the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency

If it was dashed white lines, you should be fine
 
i think that they should use this video evidence to prosecute the idiot you overtook, it really grinds my gears when idiots do like 30 in 60s, forcing you to HAVE to overtake if you want to even progress at the speed limit :\
