Can a computer run without a graphics card

Sorry for such a dumb question, but when it comes to computers i am dumb. I have a 4850 graphic card and i dont play any games, so i was thinking of selling it...would i need to buy another card

You have to have some kind of graphics adapter, on-board or otherwise.
 
Yes, many motherboards have onboard graphics. However you'd have to be positive you didn't want to game anymore (at least on anything made in the last few years) - onboard is pretty terrible for gaming.

If you thought you might want a little bit of graphical clout for potential future gaming you could get a sub £50 card. A 4650 or 9500GT or something. Though if you did that you might only make £50 profit from selling your 4850 (assuming you sold it for £100.. I have no idea what the going second hand rate is!), in which case you should consider whether it's not worth just sticking with it, seeing as you already have it.

Then hopefully a short while later you should see the mm.
 
The easiest way to check if you have onboard graphics is to look at your I/O shield. If it has a VGA or DVI (unlikely) port then you have onboard graphics which might need enabling in the BIOS.
 
Test your motherboards graphics first to see if you can live it. Connect your monitor to the VGA connector on the mobo backplane and see if you get a picture. You may need to load drivers to get the full range of resolution.
