Can a CPU cause RAM not to work

My motherboard stopped working recently so I had to replace it. I replaced it with one I got from ebay, one of the RAM slots on the motherboard didn't work. I was then sent a replacement and I had the same issue.

The RAM is fine

Can a faulty CPU cause one RAM slot to not work? If I put RAM in the slot closest to the CPU, I won't get a display until I take the RAM out and move it over to the other slot

There's only 2 ram slots

Model of the board is Asus P8H61-I LX R2.0 and the cpu is a 3570k

I've swapped the ram sticks around

The guy who sent me this board assured me he fully tested it and confirmed both ram slots work

Bios updates for this board won't work as it's an RM board so you have to use there bioses directly which I don't think they supply

Are you sure about that? I had one recently (Think it was a Viglen) that I flashed successfully with stock BIOS.

Yup, when I try it just says 'invalid'

I managed to find the bios, flashed it and I still have the same issue

I guess it's the CPU
