Can a different monitor effect your overclocking results?

I wouldn't have thought it could but for some reason I can't overclock the same since I got my new 3440x1440 res monitor and im running it through display port....

I used to be able to hit 1000/1400 on my 290 with ease and without any need for voltage adjustment but as soon as I try it now the screen just goes black and I have to reset my pc. I even tried 1350 but soon as I loaded up 3dmark it locked up and I had to reset.

Any ideas? Im guessing it could be something to do with the resolution the monitor is running at needing more juice for that specific overclock or something?

The higher the resolution, the OC will deffo be tested more and any slight instability will be found out. 1920x1080, I can run a 1267Mhz core for 24/7 gaming but 3840x2160, I have to run at 1240Mhz for stable gaming 24/7.

Seems I cant get past 1000/1320 now lol. Guess that means im going to have to add more voltage much sooner now then. Also does it make it harder to test since 3dmark only renders at 1600x900 and 3d mark 11 at 1280x720...so even if I get them stable soon as I run any game at native res it could still crash? Even extreme is only at 1080p so does that mean its worthless using 3d mark to test now?
