Can a GTX 670 run on 2 6 pin connectors?

The PSU i'm using is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-043-OK&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1709

I've had supposed "good quality" PSUs fail in the past amd this one has worked brilliantly.

The trouble is, my new gtx 670 arrived and it has a 6 pin and an 8 pin. My 560ti ran on 2 6 pins and power consumption on the 670 isnt mcuh higher so i thought it would be fine.

Anyway, i plugged the card in on 2 6 pins and it seems to be working fine. I don't like using the 8 pin adapter as i once destroyed a card when i used those.

So since my PC has botted to windows fine and GPU-Z shows all ok, is it ok to run the card on 2 6 pins? Or is a 6 and 8 required?

How can i find out if the card is getting enough juice?

That is what it runs off i thought 670s used twin 6pins mine certainly do, however not sure id trust it on that psu

I just played a quick few minutes on Chivalry Medival warfare and it seems to be working ok.

Do you think it is fine running off 2 6 pins or should i use the connector to fit another 8 pin in?

To be honest, out of all the psus, its the only one ive never had a problem with.

But again, the question was can i run the 670 on 2 6 pins or should i use the 8 pin adapter?

Using an 8 pin in theory gives the you more power (which is good) from the PSU (which is bad) as this pits more stress on the PSU.

So using an 8 pin will give you more FPS but give us more heart attacks.

Well i took the plunge and used the adapter. Everything seems fine.

I'd just like to ask if anyone here who says the PSU is bad has actually ever owned an OCUK PSU? My experience is very good with them and i will be buying another.

Of course theres nothing wrong with the psu, psu's by and large just work.

But you will inevitably be shortening the lifespan of that psu and it could smoke at any moment.

I used an adapter for a gpu in a system lately, didnt have any issues.

I can only assume that your card is a non reference model. Gigabyte gtx 670 wf being an example. Some of theese models use a 6 and 8 pin connector. The shorter pcb reference designs use x2 6 pin connectors.

I can only assume you have never looked at any real reviews (not people saying its works but actual testing) because you are risking your rig. How do you know all your components aren't being damaged by lethal spikes in noise generated by the PSU? Even OcUK don't reccomend these PSU's to people and they certainly don't make them.

Mate, it's worth getting a good quality PSU. Read a few stories on here and on other forums where people's PSU's have... gone wrong. I was going to go for an OcUK one first of all, but I sacrificed other components and got a better PSU (Corsair one to be precise :p )

It really is worth it. Just bear that in mind. Nobody wants a rig killed by a cheap PSU :/
