can a macbook pro do audio over HDMI?

I've got it hooked up to an LCDTV right now, and trying out some HD clips right now.

Is it possible to send audio over HDMI, or is there any other other way, digital link if possible.

I'm using the DVI port now, with a HDMI to DVI cable.

Is the TOSLINK connection in the headphones port?

Nice, I'm using VLC to play back HD .ts files, so I hopefully should be able to get VLC to do something similar... Thanks!
