As above, in no relation to criminal activity are they allowed to print your FULL address? Found conflicting info via google.

Cheers.

How is it newsworthy to know someone's private address? This sounds like an invitation for abuse.

"Single female, lives here..."

If some scroat is nicking lawnmowers then I'd like to know if he lives near me, but actual address? No.

I wouldn't have thought a full address to be very professional but that is just my opinion. They ought to do it for criminals though :D

for what reason? you're going to go around and beat them up?
good luck with that especially if it's a deprived area.

What difference is a deprived area going to make. I've lived in deprived areas and let me tell you there is more than one way to swing a cat. It's not my intent to derail this thread but the amount of scum bags who pick on the elderly and defenceless and hide behind anonymity with impunity is astounding. More often than not they play the system, but when they realise they are not able to do that due to fear of consequences it becomes a different matter.Good luck with your belief in a system that you think can protect you from such things.

No they can't give the full address when used as news, they can only give the street name. I'm sure the papers would love to deal with the death of someone by a linch mob.

Has anyone seen a paper print say, Mr Rogers at this address was found guilty of

Mr rogers
8 logering lane
Manchester
MR3 5BA

They usually come out with, Mr Rogers of Logering Lane was found guilty of..

Irony overload...

Don't worry, either you are a keyboard warrior or seen as one of those scum you just talked about...;)

I arn't bothered how I am seen. I do get bothered when some drugged up moron decides he's going to kick the wing mirrors from every car in the street for a third time and the police tell everybody not to press charges (because his family will retaliate). ;)

I'm willing to stand corrected if someone finds any statute to say otherwise, but I know of no reason why a newspaper could not print your full address. For many people, it's publicly available information anyway.

That said, any newspaper foolish enough to print someone's private details would open themselves up to a raft of negligence claims were any damage to arise from it.

To clarify a bit.

My father died after being very ill for many years, there was an inquest as he didn't actually die of his condition there was unfortunately a horrible accident, absolutely no problems on that end with the inquest the judge was very nice to my mum who was his primary carer. Upon leaving the court there was a 'press' man there but we declined to comment as bit upset.

Fast forward 2 weeks, story in local paper about it, didn't get my fathers name correct, got the location of the accident wrong, said he had been ill for a year and proceeded to state that he left my mother widowed who lives at **** full address. My father was 69 so it gives a strong impression of my 60 odd year old mother living by herself. I also live at the address but I wasn't mentioned in the article. Due to a previous marriage of my fathers (30+ years ago) I do have a step family who aren't the best bunch so it really did anger me.

My mum rang the paper to complain and got put through to the specific person who was at court and wrote it but he accepted no responsibility and said we should have commented. I understood that a journalist will put a spin on it and that didn't bother me but half the information (including my fathers name for christ sake) was wrong and the full address concerned me. I emailed the editor who got the same guy to email me back, no apology and just stated he got the information from the Inquest, and completely ignored my main complaint about putting the full address in the paper. However, as checking on here its not illegal so can't pursue it any further. Thanks for the responses I just wanted to know where I stood.

Did you know that saying "I aren't" is pretty much the same as saying "I are not"? Which is caveman for "I'm not".

I'm on a mobile at the moment so when I mean to say I am not it said I aren't. If it's caveman then it will be very much in keeping with some of the comments expressed in this thread ;)
