Can a PS1 game pad work on a PC?

I used to use a PS2 Dualshock pad on my Windows PC to play FIFA and other games that were suited to a controller. I had an adapter like the one on your link, I think I got it in GAME back in the day. Still have it somewhere.

As far as I remember it was plug and play with the USB adapter. Alternatively PS4 pads work with Windows via Bluetooth I think.

PS4 pads do work with bluetooth. Probably the simplest controller to pair with windows and most like the previous ps1 design.
I also use a xbone controller, but via the xbox dongle for windows, which isn't especially cheap but works well.

I'm not sure there are drivers for win 98se for xbone and ps4 / bluetooth controllers
