Is there negatives to having too big a psu?
My rig is
980 or 780ti OCd
16gb 2666mhz ram xmp to 1.65v
I7 4790k OCd

What psu would you recommend for
1. 980
2. 780ti

Both with room to overclock.
Im personally tempted to just buy a 1000w gold psu and then i wont have to worry about power, or have to upgrade if i ever sli'd.
Is there negatives to having a massive psu?
Thanks

If you go SLI, these will give you headroom for OC'ing SLI 780Ti/980

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £114.95
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 850W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £109.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer M 850W "80+ Bronze" Modular Power Supply £104.99
Total : £339.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

10 year warranty on the EVGA, it's basically the SuperFlower PSU with 10 year warranty and none of the light up connectors

Single card, these will be fine

YOUR BASKET
1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £59.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £54.95
Total : £124.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I currently have a 650w leadex gold superflower. Will that be ok for overclocking a single 780ti plus overclocking my cpu and memory?
Also is there any negatives to having a 850w or 1000w psu on a single card set up?

No massive negatives no. 650W is fine for that setup and overclocking. 850W will be fine for a single card, opens up SLI opportunities in the future

The thing is with having a larger PSU then nessary ( single or dual card setup ) is efficiency . If you can get your system load between roughly 50 and 75% of total PSU output your peak efficieny should be better. it obviously won't count for much on your electric bill but helps optimize for heat output etc whilst affording you a lot of upgrade manoeuvrability. So really no negatives but price over one that will do the job no problem at a given wattage .

so regardless of whether i pick up 780ti or 980, i should be fine on 650w inc overclocking headroom?

I think il probably upgrade to a 850w if i decide to sli

Thanks for the help
