Can Access 97, Word 2003 and Excel 2003 co-exist peacefully?

I need to used those programs. Is there any specific order I need to install them. I know you can get issues with file sharing.

Anyone had any experience?

I think you need to install Access last as that can give you the most problems but I could be totally wrong :o

I have a Pro package with all of those on one CD that installs them all i one go so perhaps it doesn't matter at all.

I think you just need to install different versions of Office into different directorys. This stops DLL's being overwritten by later or earlier versions.

I just installed them using default settings - think I installed the 2003 first and then access - no problems at all.

May have been 2000 and not 97 tho - dunno if that makes a difference

we use that combo here at work, works fine, install Office 2003 first in a OFFICE11 folder

then install Access 97 in the normal Office folder, should work OK

bare in mind, if you have Access 97 and Access 2003 (which is also possible), if you load up Access 2003, it will change the filetype so all databases will open in that instead of Access 97, and vise versa

Puts the solution we decided upon for the same problem at my work to shame!

We recently replaced 4 users PC's with new HP machines, all with Office 2003 (without access). But they have an old Access 97 db which they use everyday.

For another reason each machine had also been bought with a Microsoft Virtual PC and additional Windows licenses, both used to access a very old system which just simply won't run on XP, so the VPC's are running Win95 :(

So the quick fix was to install Office97 Pro onto the virtual PC's and leave the Office 2003 on the host XP machine.

Expensive, but it works.... besides the VPC and Win licenses were already bought anyway!

But i'd go with the installation into seperate folders. Never tried it myself, but i have heard of it working before.

Good luck :)

Thanks guys. Just got round to installing this. Did office 2003 first then Access 97. Office 2003 works fine but Access 97 has this error " Access 97 cannot start due to a licence missing on this computer" or some thing. It is an original copy. I have put the patch on for PC's with 1Gb or over.

Doing some research there is a problem but it looks complicated. Any quick fixes?

I did not install Access 2003, only Word 2003, Excel 2003 and Powerpoint 2003.

This is doing my head in!

Why not try installing Access 97 only, then install Office 2003 without Access? Just try the reverse order of what you've done?
