Can air con make you ill!?

There are health and safety requirements for minimum temperatures in offices, so take the temperature and you might find your office environment is illegally cold.

Are you cold because of the overall room temperate is low or the aircon blows on you?

I think it's a bit of both, whilst im not particularly cold now as im wearing a jacket! It's the air im breathing that I have a problem with...

We have no window but that doesnt mean to have air con on!

We have a guy in our office who likes to open the window at 7am. It's fine for him as he sits a few meters away... but for 3 of us who sit directly below the window it takes the **** abit.

I wouldn't actually mind him opening it at say 8.30 - 9 when the air is a little less chilly, but at 7am in the morning it's too much. I sit there shivering until it warms up a bit.... to be honest I don't even think he wants it open that much it's just that he's used to doing it and I think is trying to proove a point :p One day he came running in nearly crying that it was 'too hot' in here....

..... I de-iced my car that morning.

If I stay here long term I might stick ice cubs up his ass.

It's not air con you need to worry about. It's fans!

I am not kidding when I say this is a major thing out here. The Koreans take it 100% seriously... well, the news channels peddle it, as do government officials and scientists.

There is no windows!
I can feel my throat fuzzing up! There isnt any need for air con at any time in this country other than a blazing summer.
it's a small unit on the wall mounted.

Come and work in my office and tell me there's no need for air con, even in the middle of winter.

Air conditioning spreads germs in offices lots of colds and bugs stem from air conditioning. I was only speaking to someone the other day who works for Axa and has picked up some bug from the air conditioning that has blown his immune system away and hes been offwork for 6 months. Its affected a lot of people in the office. Not good.

Grow up!

I get sick to death of people that I work with turning off the air con, the office I work in is usually anywhere between 25 and 30 degrees, its hot, stuffy and ****es me off.

Put the air con on so the temp can be regulated to 22/23.

To the OP the main issue in your office isn't the air con completely its more in addition the lack of fresh air. Air con is a contributing factor to sick building syndrome from drying the air too much thus affecting the occupants health. Lack of moisture in air from normal fresh air plus insufficient air change rate due to no window will affect you over the length of a day.

So air con is perfectly able to make you ill if it has been installed in the wrong room with no means of adding fresh air in to refresh the room and maintain the required mositure content.

When i was designing air con installations in the past when i was an engineer in the building industry there was always either a ventilation grille supplying fresh air into the room at the specified rates or the windows could be opened. I and the other engineers i worked with would never just have an air con unit in a room where people were to work.
