We've decided to buy our 3 year old a second hand ipad, budget of £100. However I've no idea which one to get. I've been told that I cant get say an ipad 1 as a lot of the main apps wont work?

Could someone possibly explain?

Well the older the ipad, the less powerful it will be essentially. I'd imagine any ipad from the last 3 years would be able to run all the current apps well, it's just gaming performance will probably be worse than on say the latest one.

Ok thank you!

It'll only be for Netflix, a few learning apps etc. Not going to be overloaded.

I would also advise against getting an older model iPad since even with apps that are still compatible with those models they are more likely to be unstable and prone to crashing.

My Dad's got the first iPad and that barely runs anything due to the ios version only going up to 5.1.1

I personally wouldn't go any older than 4th gen.

What apps do you realistically need access to? With your budget I think the Amazon Fire kids edition would be a good option.
