Can An Androids Phone Or Tablets Be Infected With Malware/Virus?

Panicked older friend just called telling me he opened a scam email by mistake on an Android device and clicked on the link inside.

He hasn’t downloaded anything nor entered any information on the page it took him to.

I’m 99% certain he’s done no harm as such scams are aimed at Windows users, but I‘m not an Android user and would welcome wisdom from those who are.

What’s the go-to programme/app for checking Android devices for such infections?

Turns out the friend’s devices had Avast Pro installed and it found 0 threats when deep scanned.

OS fully updated and patched. No new apps/app install attempts seen.

Have warned him to keep an eye out for any abnormal behaviour/performance decreases.
