Can an ultrawide act as dual monitors for a single laptop?

Hi All

I have a dual monitor set up at work. The laptop plugs into a hub which has two monitor outputs which allows me to work on two 24 inch screens.

I want to replicate this at home but wondered if I could do this much more clutter free. Can any ultrawides replicate the hub that I use and allow me to have two desktops on the one screen. To be clear I don't want one desktop display that is split as I need the functionality as if it was two monitors from the same laptop?

It can if it does picture by picture (the monitor that is, most ultrawides should do this), so it will take a signal from 2 inputs, and display them side by side and be detected as 2 displays by the laptop, one of half the horizontal resolution on each output. Not really sure why you would want to do this but you can, one contiguous desktop is usually better in my experience for working, bit of a different matter when dealing with someone running in a full screen windows or dedicated full screen mode though, like a game.
