Hi

Just a quick one.... Can an Xbox 360 play Div X, real media etc files?

Thanks

in short no.
can only play video from a windows media center PC and if its divx etc it needs to be converted on the fly, which you can get apps to do

the 'on the fly' encoders are actually very good now, but you need to be running media center on your PC. If you are, just install transcode360 then you can watch divx/xvid through the 360.

When you have a stunning 37" HD tv downstairs and a 19" TFT connected to your pc, i know which one i would rather watch the media on :D

Unless you have a 42" screen with surround sound - then i vote for the god dam 360 should be able to play vidoes!

The media centre is a good option but they should still let you be able to play without - either through a disc or an external hardrive etc

Seems a very large effort for all these things I dont understand why people dont play the videos on the pc instead.

As it would be nice to watch the videos on a big HDTV with a load of people sitting round, instead of a little 17in monitor to watch something.

but we wont ask what the content of the divx videos etc is that people want to watch on a 50inch plasma ;)

Yeah whats what I didnt understand, surely youd only have mce installed if you want to use it on your tv because mce takes up more space and has a couple of extra processes running.

I've got it with the controller, good for being lazy in bed and watching / listening to stuff, plus I don't want my PC to be in a living room, so the 360 can get the MCE stuff it needs from my PC.

Yup.. I was trying to work out why, if you had media centre, you'd want to copy it all to a system next to it :p

I installed MCE on my main gaming PC which sits in the spare room, just to use the 360 to stream HD movies from it to the plasma in the living room. Havent noticed that its any slower than normal XP for games etc.
