Hi All,

Iv just got a new Asrock Z68 Fatality mobo, and im having huge problems getting any OC stable (bsod city  ) The preset Asrock settings seem to work fine tho.

So im giving the 4.2Ghz Asrock preset OC a go, its fully prime stable and the temps look good, im just worried about the Vcore figures.

See screenshot below -

Thanks in advance :)

The memory settings are manually set to XMP profile the clock is done by the mobo, it has pre saved overclocked you can use, i selected one of those.

I would input both the memory spec and the clock manually - so you know that the settings are correct and what they are (familiarisation).

You will have more control and understanding of how your clock works and be able to adjust it accordingly. Plus, auto overclocks nearly always use too much voltage compared to the exact same clock set up properly, manually.

That said, if you're only after 4.2 GHz a voltage of 1.3V, although a little high for a relatively low clock, is pefectly within tolerence.

I thought that too, but i loaded up starcraft 2 and the vcore shot up to 1.36, i may manually set it to 1.3 to see how it copes.

When you said "it's fully prime stable", how long have you did the blend test for, what temps were you getting and what's the max vcore it got to under load?

It was 3 hours of prime last night, and around 2 hours gaming with no issues. The temps are fine highest was 58 on core 3. The max vcore as per HW monitor was 1.31, but today iv seen it as high as 1.4 so iv turned off the auto overclock as that is far too high for only 4.2Ghz.

Il have another go at manually overclocking when i have more time, should be easy enough for me to 4.2 i would think :)

Thanks

Ok iv had a go my self guys, everything seems to be ok under prime for 30 mins so far, and i only need 1.23 - 124 for 4.2

Anything under 1.25V is usually the norm for >4.3GHz - it doesn't matter if a chip needs more than this but 1.3V for 4.2GHz seemed excessive.

The above is why it's always better to input a clock manually as you can monitor the volt to clock ratio far easier and get a better understanding as to what your system/CPU needs.

Yes defo those pre saved OC profiles seem crazy, 1.4 volts for 4.2Ghz

Much happier now :D thanks for the help
