Can anybody explain a fluctuating multiplier?

Hi - I just built a system on my shiny new ocuk Gigabyte DS-4 & have noticed something a bit odd

• The BIOS multiplier is 8 (8*333 = 2664, tick)
• In Windows Gigabyte EasyTune 5 reports a CPU speed of 2Ghz
• Looking at CPU-Z the multiplier is now 6!
  
  
• I've seen the multiplier change to 8 when processing occours (virus scan)

Is there some sort of automagical underclocking with C2Ds or the DS4?

You can turn it off in your mobo bios. It changes your CPU multi whenever any load is put through it.

Lowers multiplier when not doing CPU intensive tasks, to use less power and lower heat. Try running Winrar benchmark or something and look at the CPU speed then, should go right back up to normal speeds.
