We've been sending F1 pics around work and someone has sent the following picture but nobody knows who this is is!

Can anybody tell me who it is, which race, car etc?

Cheers

Peter Collins?

During the ensuing accident Collins was thrown clear of the Ferrari, hit a tree and sustained critical injuries to his head. Despite being airlifted to hospital, Collins died later that afternoon. Hawthorn was so badly upset by the death of his close friend, that he retired from driving despite winning the Driver's Championship that year, only to die himself the following year in an automobile accident on the A3 bypass near Guildford.

That's truely horrific. Sounds like Final Destination or something.

yea and the race still continued after by the sounds of it.

youtube also disgust me they have the videos of the accident and wont pull them despite my numerous reports!

The Gilles Villeneuve crash where he died was pretty horrifying as well....remember someone showing me on youtube...he was literally flung head first into the steel barrier during the Belgian GP qualifying race...not a video i want to see again :/

Morbius is right. I was watching the race at Madgwick corner. This was at the start of the race. He flew right out of the car and landed on a grass bank at the side of the track. He landed on his side and I think had cracked ribs and a broken collar bone.

I was also at the FoS in 2000 when John Dawson-Damer was killed in a Lotus 63. A marshal also died in that shunt.

I haven't been to Goodwood for a few years and it's been pretty trouble-free. Maybe I should stay away?

Yes the Tom Pryce accident was the worst in terms of the brutal nature of it. But the one that always gets me is Roger Williamson at Zandvoort is '73. For a talented young man like that to die while the marshals basically stood and watched and the race went on as if nothing had happened is chilling.

At least David Purley was recognised for his bravery trying to save Roger with the George Medal.

Roger Williamson was 25 years old.

It was at the Goodwood Revival meeting in 2000. The driver is Nigel Corner and the car is a Ferrari Dino 246. He survived.

This

I was watching the race live when Greg Moore had his crash. Horrific. I hope I never have to see anything like that again.

Same, saw it and knew in the instant he was dead, terrible velocity in that accident, biggest I can remember.

I remember being at Goodwood Festival in 1994 when Mike Wilds crashed in Nick Masons ex Gille Villeneuve Ferrari. Terrible crash and it landed a few feet from where my wife and I were standing. It's amazing that years later Mike has become a good mate, never knew him back then but have spoken to him about it as it was terrible and he was on crutches for best part of 2 years after it! Small world.

From the wiki article, my god!!:eek:

I remember a site that had loads of F1 clips on when I was back in school (before I'd heard of Youtube), and came across that one. I can't describle how terrible it was.

I don't think it should be removed from Youtube however. It should carry a warning about being unsuitable for minors, due to the graphic nature of it, but what's done is done. I know there's probably no fatal accident close to being as gruesome as that (Villeneuve maybe), but it's happened.
