Q8300 CPU
4gb RAM
1TB HDD
GeForce 9500 or equivelant
Blu-Ray drive
wireless lan N-Draft
front bay device (2 USB, headphone, mic, firewire and card reader)
inc keyboard, mouse, psu and case?
all for £600

just seen this exact spec, albeit a imported cheap german brand being sold in a cheap supermarket for the said £600

just wondering if a self builder could get just as good a deal or not.

yeah it did,
Windows Vista® Home Premium 32 Bit incl. Service Pack 1 with new Media Center interface (32 Bit version preinstalled, 64 Bit version included in delivery)

regarding the 64bit included, i think you just insert the disk and upgrade to 64b

I can't beat the price with retail stuff - but you will get a better PC if you built it yourself. That PC is pretty CPU heavy with a (pretty bad) quad core. The Graphics card is sufficient to play Blu Rays- but not much else (modern games will struggle). Also, the motherboard and PSU they used are likely bargain basement (P31 & ACME psu), same goes for the mouse and keyboard.

If you want a better build for the same money - get a p43, e5200 + 3rd party cooler and a 4850. Loose the front card bay and get a wireless card that matches the speed of your router (if you router is G, there is little point in getting N).

Any good:

Andi's spec is by far a superior machine.

Matching the components to your needs is what self buillds are about - it's here that you make the real savings.

EDIT: and RJC's (wish i could type faster)

yeah thats really cool!

i fully understand there is no chance of getting a matching price for componant spec and that a close match will beat the quoted spec out right but for a smaller cost, like RJC's and andi's specs.

as you can see from my sig, im in no need to buy said £600 pc, im a member on another forum that deals with Aldi/Medion deals and this was brought to my attention and wondered if the original spec was a good deal or not.

i guess for <£50 more a self build would be LOADS better, but if i was to scrap the OS and install W7 RC then it would be good to go with a mix of both RJC's and andi's specs

yeah that last spec pretty sweet although that gfx card may be overkill but for that price who cares
