I've just realised that when it comes to computer games I just can't help but be a big softie.
I've always tended to play good characters in rpgs or games that give a chance to do 'bad' things but hadn't thought much of it. Recently though I've been trying to play some evil characters to experience a bit more of some games, notably Skyrim, and I just can't do it!
I start with the worst of intentions, I'm going to be a thieving, backstabbing murderer, but before I realise it I've fallen for some sob story and I'm hunting for some old womans lost heirloom and not accepting any payment as she's too poor  I've tried in several games now and it's always ends up the same.
Am I the only the like this or are there other suckers out there with the same soft streak?

Well at least I'm not the only one but I do seem to be in the minority. I have just started playing SWTOR actually and did manage to force myself to flush the engineering crew of the Essesle into space with my smuggler. Other than that he's been pretty saintly though, maybe I should start a Sith just to get my evil juices flowing :)

Depends on the game really. When faced with choices relating to morality in something like an rpg (Fallout and Mass Effect come to mind) it usually benefits the story and rewards to be a goody-two-shoes. In dicking about games like Just Cause I can't but help grappling hook some poor passer by to an explosive barrel which the promptly gets shot as you watch them launch into orbit screaming all the way.

That's a good point actually, it's only been fairly recently that it's been possible to be a bad character and not end up reducing your options so I suppose I've been conditioned to always be nice and complete all the quests in order to get the best stuff.

It only seems to be rpgs that I have this issue with, I can play stuff like the GTA games and have no problem killing innocent bystanders without a second thought. I think they have always seemed more like just a computer game to me but the more modern rpgs are getting better at creating a more 'realistic' world and characters within it.
