Can anyone help me with this PS3 optical sound query?

Hi all,

I've read loads of pages of a thread about Onkyo and PS3 on the AVForums but can only get video and no audio through my Denon SR505-E. I have the PS3 connected via HDMI for the video, and optical for the sound (because my AVR cannot send video and audio both through HDMI)

I've tried changing PS3 settings to automatic and manual with everything ticked, and bitstream direct and mixed and LPCM and still no joy.

Any ideas please?

You've definitely got Optical selected as the output? Try reducing the selected formats down to just one or two (such as the 2 channel ones). If you're still not getting anything, I'd suspect it's a setting on the receiver side causing problems. On my Onkyo for example, you need to select the correct optical port for the 'mode' it's on in the settings, then also ensure in a separate menu that it's expecting audio from optical and not HDMI; I realise this doesn't necessarily apply to yours, but the point is that some settings are doubled-up for no apparent reason.

thanks for the reply :-)

You helped me suss it out :-) I tried pressing every button on the front of the Onkyo and it was that I needed to assign the optical input to the currently being displayed video input, just hope the setting saves now!

thanks for your guidance
