Behind you... Naked!
I got a Sabretooth x99 Motherboard.
5930 CPU
4x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM

I have NEVER had it running right. I thought I had, but then a day or two later, it comes up with an OVERCLOCKING FAILURE.

I then have to run it on one Stick, clear the CMOS and then mess about for ages to try getting it right.

One part of me is thinking that the motherboard is on its way out if I am honest, however it seems that a lot of people have similar issues and so there really must be a solution?

But I simply do not know.

There are 2 XMP profiles, one is 2666 and the other 2800 and the guy who sold it to me says he has been runing it in the 2800mhz one but that NEVER works, the 2666 one is the spec of the RAM and that is the one that does allow me to boot and work it for a short while.

In AUTO it runs for a short while and then simply hangs.

It even hangs in the BIOS and there is no time or anything that it does it, it simply stops working randomly.

The method I have to get it to work again, is to take all the RAM out and leave the far right stick in. ( I do swap around to try different sticks but its made ZERO difference ) and then I move the jumper over and leave it there for a good 20 seconds and then put it back and then I can boot, where I need to use F1 because it failed due to an over clock and then I go into the BIOS, quickly change it to XMP Profile 1 and then restart and go back into the BIOS. If I dont set this profile, it will hang within a minute or so, but setting that profile seems to help it last a while longer.

People have said about upping the CPU Voltage a little has solved their issues, but then, which one is that, and to what?

So, if anyone can help me in the right direction, then I would be eternally grateful.

Some thoughts as I have an Gigabyte X99 and ATX Supermicro board both with an E5-2660 V3 in. Main issue I've seen is that these early large sockets really don't like to be too tight, it can cause memory and stability issues. I've read quite a few threads over the years where reinstalling the cooler with less pressure has solved random issues and I did have an issue myself with intermittant boot that was fixed by a remount.

Did you get these all as a bundle from the MM?

Is it stable if you leave memory at stock, the higher frequency doesn't make a lot of difference on X99 as bandwidth from quad channel is pretty decent.
That would provide some info on whether it is XMP related. Depending if a bundle or not, the XMP profiles on the memory could be optimised for a different platform.

Alternatively can you borrow memory from one of your other systems to test stability.

Thanks for replying.

COOLER.
Ok, the cooler idea was mentioned in a previous question I asked. Sure enough, I tok teh cooler off fully and re-seated it.
Its a massive cooler and has 2x140mm fans on it and I did mount it side on, with the fans blowing upwards but the guy who sold it told me to mount it so teh air is blowing sideways.
The cooler is so big that I cannot use a GFX card in the top slot.

That said, the cooler has been checked and couble checked and its on just tight enough. I would say that the cooler is NOT the issue.

BUNDLE.
Yes, I got it about 2 months ago, but that is a complete guess.

STABLE AT STOCK.
No, at Stock, its worse than ever. Reset the CMOS with teh jumper, and I can get into the BIOS but I have well under a minute, to get it set to XMP Profile 1 or it hangs.

XMP Profile 1 is 2666MHZ and the settings are 100% to the RAM. I forget what they are, 15-17-17-19 or whatever!
XMP Profile 2 is 2800MHZ and this is what the seller claimed he ran it at, but the PC has NEVER booted in this mode. It also clocks the CPU to 3.8.

So, I can set it to profile and thats the most reliable setting.

RAM FROM OTHER PCS.
Well, yes, I have in my I5 Hackintosh got 2 sticks of the exact same RAM but those 2 sticks are both 4GB and not 8GB and there is no difference. It still hung within 5 minutes of starting it up, once it hung on booting and the other 2 it got to teh desktop and moving an icon on the desktop got it to hang.

Similarly, I have tried these sticks in other PCs and they caused no issues at all.

I do feel that the RAM is NOT teh issue because of that.

I do have some Dominator DDR4 and I have NOT tried that, nor have I tried these Vewngeance in the i9 either, and so I could possibly swap those over, and I may do that, but the tests with just the Vengeance showed me that the RAM was fine. These might be an issue with the Venmgeance and maybe the Dominators wont have that issue, I dont know?

So Im a little non plussed still?

I have a sort of catch 22
After resetting the BIOS, I can get into it and I manage to get it running for maybe up to a minute before it hangs.
I have no option but to use an XMP profile ( at this time )
I have indeed been trying various settings of course, but if I just have it on Auto, it simply does not work.

I may be getting somewhere now however...

its way too early to say, because I have had it running for 4 days some time ago without it crashing, but I have taken the Dominator DDR4 out of the old I7 7700K system and I am trying that out.... I had that stuff clocked to hell and its never failed me and so I am trying that out and so far, its behaving. Again, way too early to say.

Ok, I really have a sneaky feeling that I might have it sorted now...

I have Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM in this system.
I also have the exact same RAM in my Hackintosh, and the ONLY difference is that this is 4x8GB and the Hack is 2x4GB.
When I tried the 4GB, it seemed to be much better, but in the end, it also failed.

Now, I have plenty of other RAM ,and so I did at first try my Dominator and that failed completely, and so I assumed that it was simply never going to work, but this time, what I did, was start fresh.

I took a single stick of the Vengeance and try it in my main PC and it worked... I then plopped all 4 sticks in and they worked... So, I left them in for teh night and let the PC run pretty hard... I got it to convert some video files to and from MKV / MP4 and some other stuff, so I knew it would be running for a good few hours through the night, and it did it all without any issues... O, I think therefore the RAM is ok.

But the Domiinator did NOT work when I tried it when I first got the Mobo and since then I have learned that it really likes to be setup with only one stick in the far right slow and so I did that and sure enough, it came up! - So, I put the other 3 in and viola, it came on.

Now, another thought, is that my other SabreTooth motherboard is my 990FX with the AMD 9590 and that is laos using Corsair Dominator RAM.. Although DDR3 not DDR4 but that made me think that maybe the Dominator would be better in this Intel board like it is in the AMD one! - I was right.

This dominator RAM is vastly better than the LPX RAM and vastly more compatible too!

I am also NOT using an XMP Profiles, just AUTO and I have been running the system extremely hard now for 3 days, and I am at this very moment using 4 programs to convert a load of video files from one format to another , one os using the nVIDIA card ,the others are using the CPU and both the GFX and CPU are being absolutely hammered and the RAM is being eaten up like hell, and so far, its been absolutely rock solid.

So, even though it came with the Vengeance RAM and I have been using Vengeance to test it, it turnms out it prefers Dominator.

After all of that.

Ok, not a definite solution, but it certainly seems to be!

Ok, update again. I think no one will rea this, but hey ho.

It still hangs, randomly, but it hangs...

Mostly when I am moving an icon about.

The presure on the CPU cooler is one that I have been looking at, and I have had it at various pressures. The Cooler is a huge bugger and with 2x140mm fans on it, its not light, and so thats been on my mind for sure, and I am very positive its NOT that, but Im also not a moron ( debateable ) and so I am talking advice in.

Anyway this is one that made me giggle, and it must point to the CPU being the issue...

I managed to install games onto it and play those games with varying levels of success, but what I have done, is run the resource monitor from inside the Task manager and then ONLY run things that have NOT been full screen so the the resource monitor is showing me the CPU % useage for all teh cores and lo and behold, when the PC crashes, I have found random things...

1 Videos cvan sometimes keep on playing or the sound or some other things, but the entire PC as a whole kind of only half hangs.

Some cores get locked in place and some dont.

For example:-

Today, just now, I was playing a movie in a windows with VLC, I was also running SuperPI and I was converting 4 Movies and using 2 cores each with Bigasoft, and the PC hung.

VLC itself hung, as did one of the Bigasoft conversions but not the other 3. SuperPI also finished its calculations and the mouse was locked as was the keyboard, but Bigasoft was still chugging along in the background and there was nothing I could do?

It all then seemed to die after a short while and so its as if the CPU was locking cores randomly at random times, but its not like theye were parked... Thats different and happens all the time on other PCs, but these just stopped responding.

I have NEVER seem a PC do this and so, that surely points to a duff CPU doesnt it? The motherboard must be ok then surely?

I think a final post to give another update.

This morning I have received my H75 AIO cooler to replace the huge and heavy Archon cooler.

Now, with replacing the Vengeance LPX RAM with the Dominartor RAM ( My AMD 990FX SabreTooth also has Corsair Dominator so I tried this x99 SabreTooth with Dominator RAM too, and its helped many many times better ) and now the lighter cooler not pulling onto the CPU, I have spent all day trying like hell to get his PC to crash and it has so far stayed a rock solid machine.

This is no way means its fixed, but its more than just a few steps closer to being right, and as its a messing about machine, its also not going to phase me at all if its not 100%.

That said, I am just going to jkeep obn hammering it until it does fall over just to try to get it to fail.
