Hi Just joined because I've just bought an Acer M1640 from Asda, Hopefully someone will have seen the one I'm on about. It only came with a cd/dvd rom. So to make the back up disks I had to install a writer, no probs did that and made the disks. a couple of days later I got a blue screen crash and the pc wouldn't boot up again. So I used the reinstall disks and after a few mins of reinstalling they say something like error 0x0000001 click ok to restart, tried this about 20 times now and no futher on.
Then on one try after cleaning the dvd it appeared to work as it said reinstall complete ( although it never asked for the second disk) but then said boot mngr missing after it auto reset to sart up again.

Acer wont do anything as invalidated the warrenty, cant take back to asda as not in the same state as now got a dvd writer in it, does anyone have one of these maybe get copy of disks or any ideas on what to do without having to buy either new windows / PC.

Thanks.

Cant you just swap the DVDRW with the CD/DVD drive and take it back to the place you got it? Further more, your post is a bit confusing. You made backup disks from what, and backup of what? What program? Your "reinstall" disks, what do they say on them exactly (just to clear things up).

The back up software, everything that was pre-installed, windows vista basic/works full program, office 90 day trial, acer's own things, I can't remember all of them, I only got it to go on the net. but the disks are to do a cold/blank boot to load the hard drive.

Right I am still not 100% sure what it is you have done. You put in a new DVDRW, and after a few days you started getting BSOD's (Blue screen's of death, the ones with the 0x0000001 errors on it).

So then you tried to use Acers "restore" disk(s) to reload the computer as to how it was when you originally bought it, correct?

However during this your PC kept BSOD'ing and after a few attemps it said it had completed, despite not asking for the last "restore" disk?

Lastly, the PC will not boot up, and appears with an error saying "boot manager is missing" right?

Do you know how to access the bios to check the boot order?

No, Sorry...

I got the P.C. everything fine but had to add the CDRW to make backup disks.
made them and everything still ok. after couple of days futher on computer, not messing with any settings, get blue screen of death. would reboot at this point but then just blank Dos style screen woth no writing.

After using backup disks get acer recovery management screen going through whatever process they go through showing a bar from 0-100% reinstalled, while this reinstalling would get error message 0e00000001(not blue screen ) still acer animation asking me to click ok to restart.

On one occasion when acer animation did say reinstallation complete click ok to restart, did so and DOS style screen advised Boot Mngr missing.

And after trying to install again just gets part way through acer's animated installation and always gets "install failed error 0e00000001 click ok to reset"

Blue screen only once while looking at windows vista, not even on internet yet.

Are you able to go in to the bios and check what the boot order is? Did you remove the old CD drive completly, or is it still in the system?

No, I just added to the other drive bay, it recognises it if I selet boot order to choose what to boot from, the original drive is realy rubish though, i get the same error much eairlier in the reinstall process, but basically, yes it's still in and useable
