I am not 100% sure what they are called. I guess they are just a rotation slide show which are displayed on some websites.

I think that rotation slide show is prolly javascript with a fade in effect, its essentially something like moodalbox or lightbox without the popup part.

You can do exactly the same very easily with jQuery and the Cycle plugin
