Can anyone identify this shrub/tree?

Had this shrub in the garden for years and this is the first time I have noticed the black berries. It usually flowers with white flowers in the summer in small bunches, which have now turned into bunches of black berries.

I googled it but seems to be loads of very similar looking plants, but the leaves look too rounded as these have small jaggies around the outside of the leaf.

Also, are the berries edible?

Think i'll look into using them in cooking or wine making as I have started doing a few home brewed beers so would be great to try something else.
