Back in the '80s my mother dug this up in the garden and it's been sitting on a kitchen shelf ever since, but no idea what it is (well obviously I think it's probably a garden or house ornament that's been buried lol). It appears porcelain and decorated but its so heavy I don't think it could be hollow, no idea how old it is either.

Any ideas?

Ah one of the following then

After some Googling, I believe they are called gazing balls (insert schoolboy humour) designed for garden decoration.

Is it flat at the bottom or just a ball? If it's flat then maybe a paperweight? If it's a ball then definitely a queen killing. My wasp dad's them for a living.
