Can anyone identify what this box is for?

My guess is that it's a charger for something that slots into the top. Either a pager, or a light. It's plugged into a 3 pin socket.

Yeah, that hole in the top is definitely suspicious. I mean, it's in a hospital but I think it's in the middle of a thoroughfare. One would think a pager charger would be nearer to a desk or a workstation.

Honestly, I thought this forum was full of working class boomers. Have ya'll never stepped into an asbestos built office building on a crappy industrial park?

It is a pneumatic thermostat:

/thread (again)

It doesn't look anything like that. If I Google pictures of pneumatic thermostats they all look different to it.

Nurse: Security...

This is what would actually happen, knowing some NHS security guards.

Nurse: SECURITY! Security? Where is security?
Security arrives back from an unscheduled, uncommunicated visit to Poundland 40 minutes later.
Nurse: Security, we had an emergency here, where were you??
Security guard: Hahahahaah. You scarier dan me... haha. I'm sure you dealt widdit good. Walks off and falls asleep in a corner.

It is a temperature sensor, but people often incorrectly call it a thermostat.

It's connected to a building management system (BMS) which uses its readings to manage the heating, cooling, air flow and in some case humidity levels of the room.

I've only been doing this for 22 years :p

Ahhhh that makes sense. Why didn't you SAY it was connected to the BMS! When someone said "thermostat" I would have expected a dial with temps on it.
