Ive been playing guitar for probably about 9 months now, I have a yamamaha pacifica 112 as recoommended by the good people of these forums and Ive been using a pretty poor "rocket" 10w amp, you know those ones you get in encore starter sets? Only this is about 10 years old too :p

Well the times come for me to upgrade something and I'll be getting a new amp for my birthday, and possibly might stretch to a new guitar, allthough this pacifica may well do for another few years. I was just hoping for some recoommendations towards amps and some help pointing me in the right direction for a new guitar.

Amp budget will be around 100-150 quid, Im after something with a heavy sound (I mostly play stuff by bands like In Flames), distortion and maybe some effects. 15-20w should do it as its just for home use.

For now I'll probably stick with this guitar, but advice for the future would be helpful, can anyone point me in the direction of some guitars more geared towards "metal"?

Ive got a lot to learn about equipment so I really just need a few pointers to get me started off and I can go and research what I'm after :)

Cheers :)

Perhaps the Vox AD15VT would suit you. Plenty of effects, and a valve in the power stage for a more tube sound.

The distortion sounds aren't great on these (I have an AD30VT) as cheap amps rarely have great distortion, but the basic tone is very good imo, and the effects are impressive for a modelling amp. Maybe get yourself a decent distortion pedal for more options. Boss ones are reliable, reasonably priced and generally sound great. Metalzone or the classic DS1 (about £35) might suit you.

Can't offer an opinion on 'metal' guitars. Personally I think current Squier guitars are amazing for the money, but perhaps not what you're looking for.
