Hi

Younger brother is finally fed up of his old DVD player giving him problems when it gets warmer outside, so has asked for suggestions of a DVD/HD recorder/player?

I can see there are various ones available relatively cheaply now, but does anyone have any recommendations (I've seen a lite-one for about £160, or OCUK have a Samsung for about the same price).

Multi-region would be nice :)

I've installed a lot of DVD recorders in peoples houses and after installing the Pioneers (DVR433, DVR530) I ended up buying two DVR530's.
I am now waiting for the DVR540 to be available.
If you can pick up the cheaper 433 then you won't be disappointed.

The Samsung at OCUK looks OK on specs but its all down to the software and how easy they are to work.

In the same boat myself.

Probably going for the Topfield 5800 (250Gb) - but it's nearer £300.00 :(

The topfield is a PVR and not a DVD recorder with HD.

I just got the Samsung DVD-HR720 80GB HDD DVD Recorder and I'm really impressed with it.

Divx mpeg 4 support too.And can be made region free.

Good design and build quality too.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like the samsung probably has it :)

Can you confirm it's a handset code for ther region free hack?

Not long ago purchased the Pioneer 530 DVDr/HDD

cannot fault it. absolutely superb bit of kit

Also managed to bag a copy of the multiregion upgrade from the dealer.
