Can anyone recommend me a carpet cleaner/vacuum??

I've been looking for a fairly lightweight vacuum cleaner and having a small child I thought it might be a good idea to go for one that also cleans/washes the carpet!

A deal caught my eye for a Vax V-026RD Rapide Deluxe Upright Carpet and Upholstery Washer but I've no idea if it's any good!

Has anyone got any recommendations??

Regards getting a regular vacuum and hiring one for the carpet cleaning, to be honest I was really looking for one of my own so I can react quickly to certain spills (having a 2 year-old at the moment and another arriving imminently! )

I've been looking at this one: Vax V-026RD but I'm not sure if all of these carpet cleaner's can also be used as a regular (dry) vacuum?!?!?

I have a Dyson but it's one of those really compact ones with a long hose and to be honest it's rubbish!

I've had a look around and there doesn't appear to be too many decent options for both a wet and dry cleaner!

I'm leaning towards the Vax 6131T as it seems to get decent reviews and my parents had a Vax previously and it was spot on!

Has anyone got one and can comment?
