Can anyone solve my problem?

Well, my mate's problem to be more precise.

Basically hes got this BT wireless internet. He can sign in MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger or play online games like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars, but when he starts Internet Explorer or Firefox and enters the URL, it doesn't go to the website (just like if it wasn't connected to the internet, so after you enter the URL, you wait a few minutes, nothing happens, Error page comes). It is the first time I come across this problem and it is really weird. Can anyone help us please?

Thanks in advance. Your help is appreciated.

Sounds like a DNS issue.

What is his DNS pointing to in his TCP/IP settings

Start->Run->cmd->ipconfig /all
Will do, thanks for info.

Check that the browsers aren't looking for a dial-up connection.
How can I do that? I can't find that in Firefox Options.

Like i said, it's most likely a DNS issue. Messenger progs and Games will connect to servers via ip address, whereas browsers will generally connect via hostname.

Thanks. How can I solve the issue? Does the commend you wrote before solve the problem?

What error do you get?
Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.yahoo.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
