hi, i have already got an idea of the components i want to buy, but i wandered what experienced system builders would buy, i have a budget of £900, and i want the ati 5850

OS needed? If your buying a new PC, I would deffo recommend going the Windows 7 route. We can't hand to XP forever, and Vista, well it's just Vista.

What do you want to use it for? Gaming / encoding etc effect what you should be getting.

Also what components do you already have? a crappy 17/19" monitor with 1200x1024 res will need to be replaced to appreciate the 5850.

- As shinester said, do you need an operating system?
- What do you plan to use the PC for (eg Games, Video/image/audio editing, video encoding, CAD etc.)?
- What peripherals (if any) do you need (eg Monitor, Speakers, keyboard, mouse, microphone, wireless adapter)?

No probs, case is a personal choice

How is the retail cooling on the i7 920? Is it worth upgrading during the initial build if you intend on mildly overclocking (say 3.6GHz) at a later date?

For overclocking I would choose a different cooler, I am running a TRUE on mine.

Tuniq Tower, Alpenfohn, Noctua are all good coolers.
