Can anyone tell me if i can overclock this setup?

I have the following..

Asus P5Q Pro Turbo Intel P45 (Socket 775) DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz Socket 775 4MB Cache 1333MHz FSB
OCZ 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory NVIDIA SLI Ready CL4 Unbuffered 2.1V

Using the stock cooler on the cpu.

Any guides or help in general would be appreciated. I've never overclock before and wonder what and if i should attempt to push this system harder if possible at all?

Tbh mate, if your gonna overclock, ditch the stock intel cooler, its garbage. You have a very good motherboard in the p5q pro turbo, 4 x 1gb of ram will make overclocking a bit harder, when you fill all ram slots on the board, this places more strain on the motherboards memory controller , ie the north bridge, you need to up the voltage to this to compensate for more memory.

so what you are saying is that it is possible? I did have a very decent zalman, but i just broke one of the arms on the backplate -so reverted back to the stock cooler.

If you get an aftermarket cooler, yes.

back me up if im wrong. it will be fine even with 1 arm missing on the backplate. just be VERY carefull with it.

As has been said, Get a new cooler. Even a cheap one like the Arctic Cooling Freezer and you should be able to get it upto 3.6 or higher.

Maybe you could just get a new backplate. I'm not sure if a standard €4 watercooling backplate will fit, but since they're all mounted through the same holes it should?

Everything is clockable it just depends how much.
