Thanks.

I assume it isnt working for me because I cant connect to my own pc?

Oh and another question, can you connect a switch straight to a modem with a normal patch cable or do you need a router?

Any ideas?

I had this working once before, it used to take about 5 mins for it to load up for people though.

I have enabled port forwarding and disabled all software firewalls, except windows one which is auto adjusted because im using the windows built in ftp software.

Im using a netgear dg834 modem/router which is then connected to a netgear switch, which is then connected to my pc.

No idea I'm afraid. From what you've said it should be working. Double check that you are forward ports 20 & 21 to the right internal IP address and that the FTP server is actually running.

In answer to the question in your first post, no, you can't just connect a switch straight to a modem unless you are using a layer 3 (or above) switch which I suspect you're not. As the switch won't be able to route you will need a router after the modem.

I havent done port 20. I will try and see if that works.

I contacted bt and they said that they allow ftp servers on their network and havent blocked anything.

EDIT; routed port 20 now.

What error message have you been getting anyway?
