I’ve just run the “Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser” as I am about to install windows 7. According to the adviser, everything is OK except for the Gigabyte GBB36X controller. I’ve been to the Gigabyte website, but there are no updates for Win7.

Can anyone tell me what GBB36X is and does?

Thanks,

Kimmy

What model mobo?

GBB36X is part of the SATA controller, if it's the Gigabyte SATA ports (purple x2) then it will work fine as I have them on my EP45-UD3P but you should be using AHCI mode for SATA and enable Native SATA instead of Legacy.

So in the BIOS:

SATA operating mode: AHCI
Native SATA for ports 0-3: Enabled (Native mode, not Legacy)

It is the SATA controller, It passes data between the hard drives, optical drives and the rest of the system. I wouldn't worry too much about what windows 7 says anyway, the drivers included with it will be fairly recent anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply. My motherboard is a GigaByte GA-P35C-DS3R Rev 1.0. I have three drives (2 HDD and a CDROM). Not using RAID.

Will I be OK?

Should not really have any problems.

Just enabled AHCI and Native SATA in the bios before installing Win7 and all should be fine.

Keep the DVD drive in ports 0-3 and the HDD(s) in 4-5 to take advantage of NCQ through AHCI (as 0-3 will be running in Native SATA mode).

Also, install Intel Matrix Storage manager - P35 supports this too IIRC.
